Souplantation & Sweet Tomatoes announced today that their annual Easter Seals Fundraiser hosted at 20 regional restaurants raised $70,000—the largest amount raised since beginning the annual fundraiser in 2008. The money was raised from the sale of 34,754 bags of homemade chocolate chip cookies at Sweet Tomatoes restaurants in the Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, Portland, Salt Lake City, and St. Louis areas during the month of June. This year’s donation amount brings the three year total to $119,000.

To celebrate this year’s milestone, Sweet Tomatoes will host a check presentation at the Lombard Sweet Tomatoes on Wednesday, July 28 at 10:00 am. Easter Seals staff, volunteers, children and families as well as the Sweet Tomatoes staff will all be in attendance.

“We’re thrilled at the participation we saw in the communities this year. We decided to work with Easter Seals three years ago because it reminded us so much of Sweet Tomatoes in its core values,” said Lesa Pickinpaugh, Director of Operations, Chicago. “They have a passion to serve, exemplify integrity and show their respect for each individual by helping all people with disabilities. In working with Easter Seals, we know our donation will make a difference and benefit families within Sweet Tomatoes communities.”

Easter Seals is the leading non-profit provider of services for individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, physical and mental disabilities, and other special needs. For more than 90 years, we have been offering help and hope to children and adults living with disabilities, and to the families who love them. Through therapy, training, education and support services, Easter Seals creates life-changing solutions so that people with disabilities can live, learn, work and play in their communities. Support children and adults with disabilities at www.easterseals.com.

The funds raised will benefit seven Easter Seals affiliates, including Easter Seals DuPage and the Fox Valley Region, Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago, Easter Seals UCP Heartland, Easter Seals Oregon, Easter Seals Washington, Easter Seals Colorado and Easter Seals Northern Rocky Mountain.

(BRADENTON, FL) The newest Sweet Tomatoes, located at 5407 University, is scheduled to open on Monday, July 12. To celebrate the grand opening, Sweet Tomatoes has partnered with the American Cancer Society, Bradenton Chapter, by hosting a preview fundraiser event on the following dates:

Friday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, July 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

For only five dollars, guests can enjoy Sweet Tomatoes’ 45-foot salad bar full of fresh, seasonal vegetables and tossed salads, made-from-scratch soups and hand-crafted muffins, focaccia, breads and desserts. Sweet Tomatoes will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to American Cancer Society, a voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

The new Bradenton location will offer a rotating menu of more than 100 original, made fresh daily recipes featuring signature salads, soups, bakery goods and hot pasta sauces, at an all-you-care-to-eat price. All food is prepared without the use of artificial flavors, colors, additives or artificial trans fats. A different food theme is featured each month and the most popular menu items are rotated every two weeks. Items are showcased on a 45-foot salad bar and prepared exhibition style every 20 minutes.

“We’re thrilled to be the beneficiary of the new grand opening. Sweet Tomatoes is a great fit for the American Cancer Society. The fresh salads and healthy fare offered there fit well with the healthy lifestyle we aim to promote. In addition, Sweet Tomatoes offers such a great variety they can accommodate the many diet restrictions people undergoing cancer treatments have,” said Judy Athari, American Cancer Society. Money raised at this event, like all Relay For Life events, will go to provide direct patient support services in our local area and throughout Florida.”

Sweet Tomatoes seeks to be a vital and contributing part of each community in which it operates. To reach this goal, restaurants offer a “Fun-Raiser” program through which charities, churches, schools, athletic teams, scout troops and other non-profit organizations may raise funds by hosting in-store events.

Garden Fresh Restaurant Corporation, parent company of Souplantation & Sweet Tomatoes, today opened its newest locations in Encinitas, California and Naples, Florida. As the first new restaurants in the company’s 2010 growth strategy, each will offer guests the Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes signature 45-foot salad bar full of fresh, seasonal vegetables and tossed salads, made-from-scratch soups and hand-crafted muffins, focaccia, breads and desserts.

The Encinitas, California location is part of the company’s newest prototype. The new design offers guests all their favorites while creating a more streamlined design and interior. These changes will mean faster construction timelines and the ability to enter previously unavailable spaces, like shopping centers and strip malls, all without any change to the menu or quality of the food and service.

“The restaurant business is changing, and in order to grow and reach new markets restaurants must be strategic. We have developed a strategy for 2010 and beyond that will enable Garden Fresh Restaurant Corporation to grow in new and existing markets and introduce new guests to our wholesome, healthy fare,” said Joan Scharff, executive director of marketing for Garden Fresh Restaurant Corporation

As part of the company’s growth plan for 2010, six new Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes locations will open across America. These restaurants will be a mix of the traditional design and the new design.
