Featured Superfood: Sweet Potatoes

Fall brings more than the changing of the leaves and cooler weather; new fruits and vegetables are in season. One of our fall favorites? Sweet potatoes! Sweet and savory, we’re not letting this delectable side dish fall to the wayside this month.

This superfood spud is filled with nutrients and a sweet, complex flavor that reminds us of the holiday season -, enjoying the vegetable as part of Thanksgiving dinners or a warm slice of Grandma’s famous sweet potato pie coupled with a mug of apple cider. Since fall carries a note of nostalgia, we’re featuring our baked sweet potatoes this month on our Family Favorites menu!

There’s no better reason to gather up your family for a meal at Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes and put one of these potatoes on your plate since each serving is a great source of:

Vitamin B6 – helps produce serotonin and norepinephrine, which means that eating this veggie may help to make you happy!
Fiber -  aids in digestion
Beta-Carotene – this nutrient helps to protect your eyesight and may help promote heart health (just like its fellow orange veggie, the carrot!)
Iron and magnesium – aid in muscle function.
Potassium – helps to keep your heart and muscles working correctly (these tubers pack more potassium than a banana!)

Although great by themselves, we love adding a little bit of our Maple Butter, sunflower seeds or even a ladle of chili  on top of a steaming sweet potato to make it that much more scrumptious!

I have moved to Florida and I been visiting Sweet Tomatoes for about 5 years and I love all your months and your menus. However, I have notice that the sweet potatoes are getting smaller and smaller last week I was at the Lake Buna Vista location and your baked potatoes were larger then your sweet ones, I landed taking two small sweets is this because of the seasons and there more in demand? Again I truly love your soups, breads and salads.

Hi Yolanda – We source our food locally and often the season and conditions have to do with what the produce looks like. However, you can take as many as you want, so even if they’re small we hope you fill up!

we want a Sweet Tomatoe in Pasadena Texas, We want a healthy resturant. We live a mile away from the beltway 8. Population is at least 200,000 in Pasadena alone.
Any plans to build one close Pasadena or in Pasadena Texas?

We visit Sweet Tomatoes at least once a week and love everything there.
The salad bar fixings are always fresh and plentiful, the soups hot and tasteful, the breads
and desserts are a good ending to a healthy meal. Love those Chocolate Chip Cookies!

We love your sweet potatoes. Especially that they are so moist and tasty. Just like the ones we use to get in Fredricksberg TX. I don’t care that they are small they are moist and we eat the whole thing!

YEAH!! Love these in the Fall. Everyone should try them with Coconut Oil, instead of Butter, so yummy and it is a GOOD fat. Wish they Had Coconut Oil as an option.

I love sweet potatoes but will not eat them when they’re cooked in aluminum foil.
Both my parents had dementia and I don’t want to go down that path. No, thanks!

I love the small size of the sweet baked potato
i rather have it in small portion so I keep my diet while
enjoying all the good things in sweet tomatos , the stmosphere
I realy enjoy eating there

Will the GF offerings for October be listed soon? Had thought to go for lunch today, but if all I can have is a potato and chili I’ll go somewhere else. Can’t ask the manager at my local location as he is clueless.
