Sweet Tomatoes in Port Richey Reopens After Three Week Closure
from Tropical Storm Debby
The Sweet Tomatoes, located at 10156 US 19 N in Port Richey, is scheduled to reopen on Monday, July 16. After a three week closure because of Storm Debby, Sweet Tomatoes will open its doors for business with a two-day $6.99 special on Monday, July 16 and Tuesday, July 17 to welcome guests and the Port Richey community back to Sweet Tomatoes.
Storm Debby had a significant impact on Sweet Tomatoes because of a nearby retention pond that resulted in water reaching over the two-feet mark in the restaurant. The results of the high water affected floor systems, wall bases, wall finishes, door frames, doors and food service equipment. In addition to the building damages, all the food that was to be served at the restaurant was spoiled by Storm Debby and had to be thrown away. Members of the facilities and construction team from Sweet Tomatoes headquarters have made all the necessary repairs for a grand reopening at the restaurant.
The damages from the overflow of the retention pond cost Sweet Tomatoes over $80,000. Sweet Tomatoes is one of the last businesses to reopen after Storm Debby hit the West Pasco County. Sweet Tomatoes had the restaurant inspected and let the water damage dry out which took multiple days prior to restoration efforts.
“Our location had more extensive water damage than our community neighbors and we have been working hard to reopen for our patrons in the area,” said Joan Scharff, VP of Brand & Menu Strategy. “We missed our guests and look forward to opening our doors again and welcoming them back into the restaurant.”
The Port Richey Sweet Tomatoes location has been open for over a year and is the sixth restaurant in the Tampa region and the only Sweet Tomatoes location that was closed due to Storm Debby.
